Blocked Toilets
A toilet backing up over the pan rim is a plumbing emergency in any family home. We clear the blocked toilet line and check the cause so it does not happen twice.
Steep hill streets drop fast flows onto the flat sections near Downfall Creek, leaving McDowall blocked drains in toilets, sewers, stormwater lines and sinks, so call (07) 3522 5633.
If we're late, $100 comes off your bill
One call covers every kind of drain job, and the full list lives on our drain services page:

A toilet backing up over the pan rim is a plumbing emergency in any family home. We clear the blocked toilet line and check the cause so it does not happen twice.

Sewer smells in the yard or a gurgling floor waste point to the main line. Our blocked sewer service finds the choke and clears it before sewage reaches the house.

Stormwater that pools against the slab instead of reaching the street needs attention before the next storm. Blocked stormwater drains are cleared, checked and left running free on the one visit.

Sinks, showers and laundry wastes all slow down as grease, hair and soap build up inside. We return full flow with an electric eel or jet blasting, whichever the pipe needs.

When a drain keeps blocking, a camera down the pipe shows exactly where and why. CCTV drain inspections take the guesswork out, so the money goes on the right fix.

Roots that split a joint or a pipe collapsed in rocky ground need more than clearing. Drain repairs cover dig-and-replace and relining, and the choice between them follows what the camera shows.

McDowall Blocked Drain Services is the blocked drain service for McDowall, Bridgeman Downs and Aspley. We clear sewers, stormwater lines, toilets, sinks and showers, and we repair the pipes underneath them.
The suburb is mostly detached family houses that went up south of Hamilton Road in the eighties and nineties, and those drains are now at the age where roots and settling ground open joints. We're locally owned and operated, not a franchise.

Most of the blockages we clear here trace back to four local culprits:
Bushland tracks Cabbage Tree Creek along much of its run here, with Chermside Hills Reserve off Walker Street. Yards backing onto that bushland grow tall natives over the drain run, and fine roots push into any open joint.
The soil maps put stony, shallow soils over folded shale and greywacke. Drain trenches cut through that ground settle unevenly, so pipes crack and sag at the joints.
The short courts and cul-de-sac heads sit at staggered levels on the slopes. When rain runs off the hill streets, the flow slows on the flat ground by the creek reserves and leaves its silt behind, which is why the same low junctions keep blocking.
The suburb filled in on the southern side of Hamilton Road through the eighties and nineties, so much of the drain network is as old as those builds, joints and all.

Drain backing up right now? Three quick checks:

Caught early, these symptoms rarely need more than a clear. Ignore them and you meet the blockage at the worst moment:
The shower filling while the basin drains means a partial blockage in a shared line, and it is getting worse.
Air trapped behind a choke has to escape somewhere, and that noise is it.
A cracked or root-split pipe leaks into the ground, and the grass finds it first.
That points at the main line rather than a single fixture, so it needs a plumber before it becomes a backup.

Every drain job is priced on what the plumber finds, not on a rate card. The main factors:
A drain three feet down behind a fence costs more to reach than one under a removable toilet pan in the laundry.
Older terracotta and shallow PVC behave differently, and both change how the line is cleared.
Grease in a kitchen sink is a quick clear. A root mass or a collapsed section in rocky ground is a bigger job.
If the cause is not obvious from the surface, a camera inspection finds it properly so the spend lands on the right fix.
One job we will point you elsewhere for: a blockage in the Urban Utilities sewer main out in the street belongs to the water authority, and we tell you straight when that is where it sits.

The other half of drain work here is water arriving too fast, not leaving at all:
Cabbage Tree Creek, Downfall Creek and Little Cabbage Tree Creek all cross the suburb, and the council has marked a flood planning strip along each of them. Its mapping of the February 2022 flood put water on the first two.
Summers here are hot and wet, and the storm damage lands between November and March. The destructive November 2008 storm is the local yardstick for what a bad cell can do.
Runoff off the hill streets loads the stormwater connections on the low strips fast, and when stormwater and groundwater rise together, house drains there struggle. Clearing the stormwater side before the wet season costs less than bailing out after it.
From the school frontage on Rode Road to the courts off Beckett Road, we cover McDowall and its neighbours. We also clear drains in Bridgeman Downs, Aspley, Chermside West, Stafford Heights and Everton Park.

Four steps, the same every time:

On (07) 3522 5633, run through which fixtures are slow, gurgling or overflowing, so the plumber on the way knows where to start.
We show you the cause, talk through the fix and give a fixed upfront price, and work begins only when you are happy with it.

We shift the choke with the method that suits the pipe, an electric eel for soft root masses or jet blasting for grease and grit, working from the nearest inspection opening.

We run water through the line until it drains freely and show you the result before we pack up.
$0 call-out fees, available 24/7, and same-day where we can.

Access to the line, the depth and material of the pipe, what actually caused the blockage, and whether a camera inspection is needed to find it. You agree the price before any work starts, so nothing gets added on later.
Ring early and a plumber can usually reach your drain the same day. Later calls are triaged over the phone so urgent jobs, like sewage coming up through a shower, go first.
The drains inside your boundary, up to the connection point, are yours to maintain. The sewer main out in the street belongs to Urban Utilities, and we will tell you straight when a blockage sits on their side of that line.
Wet wipes, paper towel, cotton buds, sanitary items, cooking fat and coffee grounds cause most of the chokes we clear. Bin them instead, and keep paint and chemicals out of the gully trap too.
A CCTV drain inspection sends a camera down the line and shows exactly where the problem sits and what it is, whether that is a root mass, a sagged joint or a collapsed section. The fix is priced in full before anything is dug.
Ring (07) 3522 5633, run through which fixtures are playing up and where the water is backing through, and we will take it from there. Same-day where we can, right across the suburb.
